Foster A Legacy

A family Legacy Program seeks to ensure that the Three Generation Syndrome is avoided:

The first generation makes the money,

The second generation spends the money

and the third generation loses the money.

Successful families have learned to establish a legacy of hard work, honesty, generosity and service to others. These core values are the foundation upon which families build traditions that bind multiple generations to a common legacy. Today many families are crippled by inter-generational miscommunication, feelings of entitlement, rebellion and destructive behaviors. This crisis our family structures is reinforced by social, political, cultural and economic differences.

The gap between grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren is clearly apparent if you are aware of the differences between.

The Lost Generation (1901-1924)

The Silent Generation (1925-1945)

Baby Boomers (1946-1964)

Generation X (1965-1980)

Millennials (1981- 1996)

Generation Z (1997-2013)

And now Generation Alpha (2014-2022).

We sponsor workshops, expeditions, legacy-building structures that bring members of the different generations to work together to ensure the dreams and hopes of the earlier generations are understood and reinforced by the later generations.

Workshops focus on: (1). Relationship building, (2) Cross-generational communication skills, (3) Strengthening systems of gratitude and appreciation.

We work with an organization called CHOICE Humanitarian that organizesexpeditions in eight countries: Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Kenya, Nepal and the Navajo Nation.

These 1-2weektrips allows family members to experience the reality of extreme poverty. Often for the first-time children and grandchildren can see how many in this world live a life with no electricity, no TV, no videogames or internet, often malnourished and hungry, having no schooling, health services, or any of the blessings of modern life. Families work side-by-side helping villagers to start the building of a school, a health clinic or a potable water system or other services needed.  One older teenager said to his father:“ Dad. I never realized how blessed I am! One farmer told me how much money he earned in a month, and it dawned on me that I spend more than that on a weekend date with my girlfriend.” We believe such an expedition can bring families together like few other experiences they might have. Going to Disney Land versus spending a week or ten days in an isolated village in the jungles of Guatemala, near the ancient temples of Tikal! You Decide?

In my book Extreme Poverty Eliminated: A Successful Program in Nepal, we outline a program based upon six basic principles through which some 12 action steps were implemented. This one area of some 68,000 people in West Central Nepal has proven to be a “Beacon of Light” in Nepal, motivating the government, other NGOs, and some international donors to spread this approach throughout all of Nepal.

What if your family’s legacy was to establish a “Beacon of Light” program in ten other countries over the next ten years, can you see what this might mean to your children and grandchildren.

I believe if your family, with other families, businesses, and corporations were linked into a collaborative effort, this would be a legacy that your grandchildren would clearly be proud of. The best way to see what this program might accomplish, read my book Extreme Poverty Eliminated available on Amazon, especially the endorsements and chapters 1 and 2 and 11 and 12.
